We made it to tennessee!

I am taking advantage of the internet connection and giving 2 days of info.

We have had 4 days of rain, starting in Oklahoma, continuing in Arkansas and in Tennessee- we have probably seen a years worth of rain in the past 4 days! Jerry saw a road sign in Oklahoma or Arkansas that made us smile- it said “Do not pick up hitchhikers- may be escaped convicts”- yikes!

We arrived in Tennessee yesterday afternoon, and the Welcome sign is on a bridge crossing the Mississippi River. The river was pretty brown and muddy, and it was raining as we crossed the river and drove through Memphis.

We continued to where we are camping, Parker’s Crossroads, which is really a wide spot in the road. There is a Civil War battlefield that we will explore while we are here.

Today we backtracked a little to explore the city of Jackson, which is about 30 miles from where we are camping, and 90 miles from Memphis. We picked up a rental car (which gets way better mileage than the 10mpg of the truck- and is easier to park!), and then visited the Casey Jones museum. It was interesting to see the old train memorabilia and to hear the story of Casey Jones and his heroic effort to protect his crew and passengers. We wanted to get a feel for the city, so we drove around several neighborhoods and a major commercial street- need to be sure there are some of the necessities, like Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Camping World, Talbots, restaurants… The closest Costco is in Memphis- darn!

The price of real estate is great here, with existing homes priced around $100-150+ per square foot! Here are some pics of homes on Realtor.com:

All I can say is WOW! We’ll add more info about real estate and the fun things we do on this adventure- 70 days to go!
