Chula Vista- Again

The campground we love near San Diego had a Black Friday sale, and I could not resist, so I booked a 2-week stay at 50% off! We went late April to early May, and had a wonderful time- although Jerry asked “What did we do?” Not a lot, no tourist stuff, and still had a great time. We saw a couple of cruise ships as we drove into San Diego:

The weather was Cold- in the low 60’s most days, with a couple days of light rain. Frankly, it was a nice change from the normal Bakersfield weather and the impending heat we knew was coming. In fact, it was 100 degrees 2 days after we got home!

The park near the campground was finally finished, and it is very nice- picture native plants and instructional information about the seasons, the native plants, and wildlife, along with some cool play areas for kids.

We took nice long walks (6-7 miles) a few days, going through the park, along the waterfront and the marina, past the brand new Gaylord hotel/convention center, and to another park- then back again. The Gaylord is opening mid-May, and I looked at expedia to see how much rooms were- they started around $500! Yikes! There is a big pool, a couple water slides, a lazy river, and about a million chaise lounges!

We also discovered that even though it was 65 and breezy, the glass wall at the pool blocked the wind, so sitting in lounges for a few hours was very comfortable and relaxing! And nobody else was at the pool- awesome!

A couple weeks before we went on our trip we found out a friend, Judge Bush, was having a retirement party, so we drove home to attend, and it was so much fun! We had a chance to catch up with some old friends from the Friends of the Gleaners (local food bank we volunteered for several years ago), as well as send Michael off into the wonderful world of retirement! The day after the party we went back to Chula Vista for the rest of our stay, and enjoyed the last 4 days.

We explored Sunset Cliffs, which was beautiful as a storm was coming in:

While walking around the campground we saw the cutest little pink trailer- it looked like something Barbie would have- what do you think?

And finally, a beautiful Chula Vista sunset:

Four days after arriving home we were going to leave for our BIG trip back east- but that’s a story for another post!
