Wichita Kansas

The rain and wind are following us from Dodge City to Wichita, but we don’t let it stop us! We only had 2 days in Wichita, and there were several things we wanted to see and do- but we had a problem, and learned a valuable lesson: Check the days/dates of your visit to see if the places you want to go are open! We arrived in Wichita Memorial weekend, so some of the things we wanted to do were closed- DUH! Next time we will visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Allen House and the Mid-America All-Indian Museum- after ensuring they are open! But we are flexible, and everything is an adventure, so we did make sure we saw the Keeper of the Plains sculpture:

We also visited the Old Cowtown, a living history museum made up of old building that were moved to the museum. There are homes, stores, a bank, sheriff office, railroad terminal, etc. The buildings are all furnished as if it was the 1800s- it was terrific!

You could go inside all of the buildings, and I thought the bank was particularly beautiful!:

The next day, after Jerry worked with the tech guy to fix our internet router (to no avail- they are still working on it), we visited the Museum of World Treasures- and I can only say WOW! This is a must visit museum if you are ever in Kansas! The collection starts with dinosaur fossils, has gems

includes exhibits from ancient Greece and Egypt (including pottery that is 3000 years old!), Mayans, Asia, Africa, American history (including Revolutionary War, Civil War, World Wars, Viet Nam, Hall of Presidents)… We were there for almost 3 hours, and closed the place down- and didn’t get to see everything!

They had 2 mummies, but you were not supposed to take pictures out of respect for the dead.

This museum is definitely somewhere to visit! Tomorrow we are off to Topeka to meet up with Kyle- can’t wait!
