Exploring middle Tennessee
Yesterday we met with a real estate agent who took us around several areas to look at houses. We started in Tellico Village, a HUGE 55-and over community, where the house prices seem a bit high to us, and the cheaper houses need updating (think formica counter tops). There was one house that we liked, but it was a bit smaller than we want and was expensive.
Tellico Village seems nice, with lots of amenities- 3 gyms, 3 golf courses, parks, hiking trails, tennis and pickleball courts, churches, clubs, etc. It is very hilly and there is not a straight road in the whole place- lots of blind corners and hills that you can’t see what’s coming at you- or where you are going until you get to the top! Also the roads are very narrow- 2 cars can barely pass each other, and you cannot park on the street at all.
These are typical roads, and a lot of the land is covered with trees because it’s a hill that is too steep to build on- keeps everything green and beautiful though! We looked at other areas and houses- Maryville seems to be a nice town, but the rest of the houses were not at all what we would want- and one was really dirty! One was on a hill so steep that it was probably 45 degrees!
Today we drove to Chattanooga (I just love to say that name- it makes me smile) to visit Rock City- very cool and we highly recommend it!
So few pics of us…
From this lookout at the top you can see 7 states: Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and of course, Tennessee- AMAZING! This panoramic shot looks a little funky, but this was very beautiful.
You walk across this swinging bridge on the trail- I admit I hung on with both hands! This waterfall is from Lover’s Leap. We really enjoyed Rock City, and highly recommend you go if you are ever in this area.
You won’t believe what we did next- we were only 40 miles or so from another attraction in Georgia, so we decided to go for it:
Chattanooga is right on the border, so we went into Georgia to visit this other attraction. In fact, we missed the Welcome sign, so my fantastic husband, Jerry, got off the freeway at the next exit, went back into Tennessee, and then came back around so I could get a picture! He is awesome! So where did we go?
Yep- we went to Buc-ees, a HUGE travel center that Jerry had heard of- and it was amazing! the one we visited is in Calhoun, Georgia, and it has 120 fuel pumps and a 50,000 square foot store, with clothes, home decor, car accessories, snacks, food, beverages, etc. And huge spotless restrooms- Disney could learn from Buc-ees!
Gas pumps forever- and the prices show why they are so popular!
This beef jerky bar was so big, and they had amazing brisket sandwiches! This other picture shows about half the store! If you are ever anywhere that has a Buc-ees, I recommend checking it out- they have a lot of places in Texas, their home base, and are expanding into other states, mostly in the south- and get a chopped brisket sandwich!
