NOT a good adventure!
Next stop is Beaver, Utah, but we did not have a good surprise there! first, as we were driving we saw smoke- there was a wildfire near the town where we were supposed to camp for the night:
As we got closer to town we could see that the fire was not too far off. The wind was blowing the smoke away from town, but we didn’t want to take a chance on the wind changing and the smoke coming towards us. So while Jerry filled the truck up with diesel, I looked at fire maps and saw that this was a pretty big fire and not at all contained. Meanwhile Jerry noticed the trailer tires were wearing in a strange way, so we pulled into the truck stop to have them take a look. Yep, these are the same tires we bought last summer after getting a flat tire in South Dakota, so they didn’t even have 10,000 miles on them! So guess who got new tires, a new equalizer and new shackles? The trailer did! So while we were spending several thousand dollars to be sure we were safe (priceless!), I got a reservation at a new campground about 40 miles away- nowhere near smoke or fire!
We had a very pretty sunset that evening:
The next day we drove through southern Utah (looks like western Colorado):
and on to Nevada:
We spent a couple nights in Las Vegas doing trailer stuff and going to movies ($5 at Sam’s Town! Oppenheimer was good, as was Mission Impossible) and we had an amazing sunset:
We got home Thursday afternoon, and were amazed at how cool it was- only in the 80’s! We took advantage of the weather and got the trailer unpacked and laundry started. By Saturday everything was put away and we started on trailer cleaning. I use a Swifter wet to mop the trailer floors while we are traveling, but they sure don’t do a very good job! I mopped twice with my house mop and scrubbed on my hands and knees between mopping to get them clean!
We brought home a few souvenirs, including numerous coasters from places we visited, a couple of t-shirts, and a beautiful wedding pitcher made by a Pueblo artist. Sadly, it did not travel well, as it has TONS of hairline cracks all over- sort of like crazing in granite. I am not sure if it was the heat or the fact that I kept it all wrapped up while we were traveling (and in a drawer cushioned by socks)- I am so disappointed! You can’t see the cracks unless you are close, so we are only viewing from 5 or more feet away 😉
We got the trailer back into storage Tuesday, and Jerry promptly got sick, poor guy! Well, I guess better to get sick at home and not when you have to drive for several hours or miss out on fun sightseeing adventures! We had a wonderful trip though, and are glad we spent time doing fun things, seeing some of the people we miss (CJ and Peggy, Jim and Rob, Cathy), not just looking at real estate!
