So much Driving to do…
We had a special treat on Sunday- we met Karel’s brother and his husband in Bristol for lunch! I cannot believe we didn’t take any pictures! We had a great visit, catching up and sharing stories, and we have promised to not wait so long to get together again. So, Family- let’s start planning a family reunion within the next year! Middle of the country perhaps?
On our way back to the campground we took a small detour to Kingsport to look at property:
There were 2 lots- each about an acre. One was For Sale By Owner for about $50K, next to the house on the left in this picture, but the street it was on was pretty busy. The other lot (straight ahead in this picture) was just around the corner from the first, and had a real estate agent, and was $109K– how could that be?
The next day we mapped out a route to look at about 8 properties between Bulls Gap (that is the real town name) and Morristown, and we found a couple of beautiful lots with a lake view. Unfortunately the best one is already in escrow, and the other is a little pricey at $50K for 1/2 acre. Here is the view from that lot:
Today we went to Elizabethton and found a very nice, level lot with a great view:
Unfortunately, the road it was on was truly one lane (not one lane each way, just one lane!) and the area around it was not as desireable:
Notice how the grass is mowed right up to the shack- people keep the grass on their property mowed, but they stop at the property line. The grass grows and is really like prairie, with grasses and flowers.
We don’t want a house where we have to do a lot of steps, and are really surprised at how hard it is to find level land- we didn’t realize how hilly and rolling Tennessee is! Here is a picture of a house we saw today that might help you to understand why we are having such a hard time finding what we are looking for:
We have put over 2600 miles on rental cars in 3 weeks as we drive all over the place looking at property and exploring towns and cities- it’s exhausting!
Today we also went to see Top Gun Maverick- I definitely recommend it, but the theater had a small screen- go see it on a big screen!
There are so many pretty views here- this is one of a valley as the sun is setting:
