On to Arizona- and horrible roads!

We started our trip to by going to Vegas because the road (I-40) between Barstow and New Mexico is HORRIBLE! We found out that the road from Vegas to Arizona isn’t any better once you get into Arizona. We passed Hoover Dam, so here are a couple pictures of Lake Mead:

This is a decorative overpass on the way to Arizona, and a picture of Lake Meade- there is more water than last year!

We drove to Williams, AZ, the gateway to the Grand Canyon:

Have I mentioned the roads in Arizona are HORRIBLE?  Poor Jerry had to constantly swerve to miss giant potholes- they REALLY NEED TO FIX THE ROADS!!

After getting set up in our campsite we went to the Grand Canyon Deer Farm. They have lots of different kinds of deer (duh!) ,

and other animals like reindeer, elk, wallabies (cute), peacocks, a camel, miniature horses, coatimundi, and others.

We bought a cup of food to feed the deer- and I practically had to fight them off! They chewed on my sweatshirt, slobbered on me, and surrounded me trying to get food- this is NOT an activity for small children! It was fun, though, and the animals were cool.

It was time for dinner so we went for pizza- oops the place we selected was closed- They reopen the next day. So we went around the corner to another place- same story! Finally found the Grand Canyon Brewery where we got great beer and pizza!  Later we went to an ice cream place called Sweeties- yep you guessed it- closed for a while: a sign in the window said “Be right back- went to feed the cow”.  Really?

We were held up by a train on the way back to the campground. It stopped, and we sat there for about 5 minutes. Then someone behind us turned around, giving us room to also turn around, and we went down the road a bit to an overpass.

I did a quick load of laundry to clean up from the deer- and the train was still there for about half an hour! We heard a couple train whistles during the night- LOUD!

Traveling is such an adventure- you just have to roll with whatever comes your way- even deer slobber and train whistles!
