Day 1- Vegas, here we come!
We got all hooked up, had a quick breakfast and then drove to Las Vegas. This is not a very scenic or exciting drive for non-desert people- except while we were driving we did get a phone call from one of the campgrounds where we have a reservation. It was good news because the kind of campsite we wanted, a pull-through, instead of the back-in we had reserved, became available so they were going down their waitlist- YES PLEASE, we’ll take it! YAY! This makes pulling in and leaving so much easier- such good news!
We drove past the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility, which is kind of strange looking as the panels all reflect solar power up to boilers on 3 giant towers. There is an eerie glow between the towers and the solar panels.
This is the largest concentrating solar power facility, and when it opened in 2014 it doubled the amount of solar thermal energy produced in the US!
We went out for highly rated Chinese food for dinner at a resort near our campground. It was expensive and bland- the highlight was the steamed rice after I put soy sauce on it- oh well! Apparently I didn’t read enough of the Yelp reviews! Lesson learned!
