Greenville, SC

North Carolina and South Carolina have state agricultural department farmers markets! And they are open every day! We went to the one in Asheville and it was 2 BIG buildings full of people selling all kinds of produce (some from other places, not just home grown), baskets, jams, cheese, butter, soap, etc. The market in Greenville was about a third the size.

We did attend the TD Saturday Market here in Greenville- it was 2 long blocks downtown full of vendors selling things they grew or made. We got some scones for breakfast. We got there about a half hour before closing so some of the vendors were running low on products. There were flowers, cheese, pasta and sauce, salsas, pottery, produce, and baked goods. If we lived here I would attend every week as the vendors change. Lots of fun!

Forgot to mention- at our last stop Jerry saw a bird flying into the hitch on the trailer, so we put some mesh up to keep birds out. When we got to Greenville we found a pretty large nest in the works:

Luckily there were no eggs!

We found a couple of builders who build “custom homes”- they have a lot of plans and you can change them to meet your needs. They have a variety of flooring, counter, cabinet, etc. selections that they want you to choose from- not sure what they would do if you wanted something different! The reviews of both companies are very good, and we found a couple floorplans we really liked (with a couple little changes)– but we need a lot first! We didn’t have any luck in that regard in this area, but we can get a real estate agent on the lookout if this is the area we decide upon.

Greenville has a minor league baseball team, and we went to a game last night! It was a lot of fun. The Greenville Drive is the High-A team of the Boston Red Sox, so their field looks like Fenway Park, complete with the Green Monster! The Drive got off to a horrible start with a few really bad errors, but they rallied in the 8th inning and won 10-7. Here’s a pic of the field:

Our last day in Greenville was devoted to laundry (5 loads!) and trailer maintenance- there is always something to do! We went to a couple produce stands to get peaches (SC grows more peaches than Georgia- who knew?!?), and went to look at a lot that was newly on the market (a BIG NO when we saw it was a ravine!)- just another day….
