Logs, Lots and Getting cheesy

We started this morning by visiting Natural Elements Homes, a company right here that makes log homes, timber homes and hybrid homes. They basically build all the parts in their facility then put it together like a puzzle on your site. This is a rendering of a modern farmhouse hybrid home, and it was BEAUTIFUL inside! The product they are selling is basically the shell with interior walls framed, and then you do all the finishing or have a contractor do it- that means all the sheetrock, plumbing, wiring, HVAC, cabinets, counters, etc. We loved the look of this model, but I think the final cost would be prohibitive- but we will get a price once we find a lot!

So we drove around and looked at lots in Athens, TN- they looked great online, but they were either on a steep slope (and you would build on the bottom):

or the neighborhood was not good. Here’s an example that is a level lot that is mostly cleared, but whatever you put on it would be the best and most expensive house in the neighborhood of dated and not well-kept homes:

I found some other lots online this evening in Loudon, so we will go check them out tomorrow.

After viewing lots we went to Sweetwater Valley Farms, a farm that makes delicious cheese! This was a nice change from the frustration of lot searching!

Rain was predicted, and boy did it ever come in! It’s supposed to rain for the next couple days (of course, since Wednesday is travel day), and it was another gully washer:

As soon as there was a break I ran and got the jackets and umbrellas that were in the car- not helping us much there!
