Hilton Head
When we visited Hilton Head Island earlier this year (thanks to Karel’s sister, Lenora and her husband Dan <3), we decided we would come back- not really to look for a place to live (it’s expensive!!!), but to play and visit Savannah. We found a BEAUTIFUL campground, Hilton Head National RV Resort, but it is also expensive, so we only stayed 4 nights. The spaces are huge, with lots of room between sites. Here is our site:

We went to the pool our first evening, and enjoyed the lazy river and cooling off in the pool:

We had dinner at the resort restaurant- it was very good and so convenient!
The next day we picked up our rental car so we don’t have to drive the giant truck everywhere, then went to Latitude at Margaritaville, a 55+ community fashioned after Jimmy Buffett, and there was a true island vibe! The houses are tropical colors, and the development is very spread out, with lots of trees- it’s beautiful! There is a restaurant, gym, theatre, amphitheatre, indoor pool and GORGEOUS outdoor pool, as well as a ceramics studio and a 10,000 square foot woodworking studio! They have physical therapists who come on site, as well as medical group who comes in for basic healthcare.
We toured the houses and found a couple that we like:

We came back twice so we could revisit the models, get a better idea of pricing with all the options/upgrades we would want, and look at a lot that is just what we are looking for (backing up to trees so we aren’t looking into someone else’s backyard – or they aren’t looking at ours!). They don’t usually fence their backyards, so you really are open to your neighbors!

The sales person gave us a pass to come back and enjoy the music they have every Friday and Saturday night in the amphitheatre- sometimes it’s a band, but the night we were there it was a DJ. He played some good music, but it was getting late and it started to rain, so it was time for us to leave. On the way out of the development it started raining fairly hard, and there was something walking across the road in front of us, so we stopped- and it was an ARMADILLO crossing the road! It was amazing! He looked like he was walking on his tippy toes 🙂 Unfortunately it was dark and raining so I couldn’t get a picture, but I had been wanting to see an armadillo in the wild, and now we have- ANOTHER GREAT ADVENTURE!!
We took a trolley tour of Savannah- it’s a beautiful city with lots of squares (little parks),

and very narrow streets. There is also some great (and quirky) architecture:

It was very hot and humid, so we didn’t walk around much, but Savannah looks like a great place to shop, based on what we saw as the tour took us by Broughton Street!
Before we left this area we did laundry- the campground has 20 washers and 20 dryers, so I got 4 loads done in an hour and a half- awesome!

Finally, a look at some of the wildlife and weather in the area:

Luckily moving day was sunny- on to Mt. Pleasant near Charleston!
